Geneva High’s Science Team Makes Top 10 in State Competition

Geneva High School shined at the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Illinois finals that took place recently in Campaign-Urbana. The 14 member Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Competition team received the Tradition of Excellence awards and finished the strongest in several years.

The Geneva High School team competes with the largest schools in Illinois because of Geneva’s size. Geneva competes alongside large schools like New Trier East and West.

Tom Rodgers, Geneva High School Principal has attended the competition each year since he took the role and praised the team on their accomplishments. At a Monday meeting with the Board of Education, Rodgers spoke how the team members seemed a bit different than in previous years. The team did not come down to breakfast still cramming their chemistry and engineering graphics, but calmly ate and played their same educational game that they played on the bus ride down.

The team members of the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering include James Bartusek, Patrick Boduch, Blair Dunbar, Molly Griffin,Collin Waldoch, Christopher Warren, Grant Fairchild, Joshua Kilmer, John Schrilla, Jordan Otto,William Stith,  Ryan Ahern,  Keane Hensley, and Bradley Bernhard.

Joshua Kilmer also took fifth place in a computer science contest and sixth in the engineering graphics contest. In the individual chemistry contest, Ryan Ahern placed and John Schrilla both placed fifth and sixth respectively.
